Google Apps Deployment Roles


Google Apps Deployment Project Manager:  

This role is defined as a strategic deployment project manager covering typical project management functions for any Google Apps Customer engagement on behalf of the cross-functional Google team.  For purposes of clarification, this person does not serve as the Customer’s own project manager to drive the Customer’s own cross-functional execution though the PM will hold the customer accountable for delivery of any customer owned tasks.  This role includes brokering the full range of customer needs and escalating / managing those issues into Google.  The Project Manager responsibilities consist of the following:

  • Confirm that all deployment projects are executed in an orderly manner
  • Create clear written documents (in accordance with Google specifications) that define solution scope, solution design, task-level deliverables, milestones, and management processes that establish task-level accountabilities and issue resolution procedures
  • Drive the development of deployment project scope and the companion solution architecture and design, and work with Google sales teams and other Google staff to present and lock down the Deployment Project Plan with the Customer during the sales cycle.
  • Facilitate and, if agreed appropriate, drive the process for confirming that deployment projects are properly staffed by the Customer and Partner resources in accordance with Google Best Practices
  • Capture, track, and drive resolution of all project-related issues  to secure timely resolution by appropriate internal and external resources.  Keep Partner Operations Manager informed of critical, project timeline impacting items as appropriate.
  • Act as an escalation point for engaging Google’s Partner Operations Team to provide advice or support on deployment decisions.
  • Develop and implement management processes, metrics and reporting instruments to confirm project success and consistent communication and status reporting across all stakeholders
  • Develop and manage project plan with the project lead from Customer.
  • Hold project stakeholders from Customer and Partner accountable for delivery of project work streams on time and on budget.
  • Lead regularly scheduled project status review meetings at mutually-agreeable time with all parties.
  • Engage third-party product or professional services partners
  • Share experiences and best practices from Google and of other Partner customers.
  • Ensure proper coordination of activities among Partner team members.


Google Apps Deployment Consultant and Product Specialist:

This role is defined as a Google Apps Deployment Specialist and Solutions Architect who will gather business requirements and establish product configuration specifications to support business requirements.  He or she will identify key functional gaps that require customization and work with other Contractor staff and, if appropriate, the Google Partner Operations Manager and any other designated Google Technical Resources address complex architectures and any critical technical issues which may be encountered during the deployment.  The Deployment Specialist responsibilities consist of the following:
  • Provide product experience and solutions architecture recommendations for Customer engagements
  • Work with sales teams to present business solutions / configurations to the Customer during the sales cycle.
  • Work with Deployment Project Managers to provide clarity on business deliverables and milestones.
  • Configure products to deliver business requirements on a timely basis.
  • Interface and team with Google product managers and engineers, as appropriate, to solve business / functional deployment problems
  • Proactively transfer functional knowledge to Customers to confirm smooth and orderly transition of Customer from Deployment Phase to ongoing production environment
  • Work with Deployment Project Managers to provide clarity on technical deliverables and milestones.
  • Deliver technical requirements on a timely basis.
  • Interface with project team and Google Partner Operations Manager as appropriate to solve technical deployment problems
  • Proactively transfer technical knowledge to Customers to confirm smooth and orderly transition of account from deployment phase to ongoing production environment
  • Coordination of and advice on technical items such as integration, migration, and mobile devices
  • Work with Project Manager to present best practices and proven approaches for Google Apps implementations
  • Drive technical issue resolution with Google Support


Change Management Specialist:
  • Develop and execute Communication Plan in partnership with Communication lead from Customer
  • Create and execute Training Plan in partnership with Communication lead from Customer, including user help site
  • Drives development and delivery of help desk training
  • Supports marketing initiatives around Google Apps Project


Google Apps Sales Engineer:

This role is defined as one that provides hands sales engineering work to answer customer queries to help customers with their purchase decision of Google Apps.  The Sales Engineer responsibilities consist of the following:
  • Working closely with customers to understand their business needs
  • Map customer's business requirements to technical capabilities of Google Apps
  • Able to identify possible work arounds
  • Perform a fit test with customers to ensure Google Apps is appropriate for the customer
  • Be able to identify quickly if the customer is a good prospect for the Google Apps suite in the sales process
  • Work with sales teams to present business solutions / configurations to the Customer during the sales cycle
  • Answer technical product questions
  • Work with Deployment Project Managers to provide clarity on technical deliverables and milestones.
  • Answer technical product questions
  • Provide the customers high-level implementation strategy 
  • Provide customers with mobile solution options
  • Provide answers to customer security concerns
  • Demonstrate end-user product features of Google Apps
  • Demonstrate system administrators features and functions of Google Apps
